When does CDW not apply?

CDW covers a wide range of accidents, but there are some situations it doesn’t cover.

These include: reckless or dangerous driving, using a phone or other device while driving, hitting an object while driving, new damage caused by abandoning the vehicle, a total loss caused by negligence, using the car after it was stolen, failing to report an accident, failing to get the other driver’s plate number or the other vehicle being unregistered, the other driver not having a valid license, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

All of these are avoidable with normal safe driving — obey the speed limit, never drive under the influence, and report any accident to police right away, and your CDW coverage will apply as expected.
