How to Refuel

Most gas stations in Guam are self-serve.

Some pumps offer full service, but self-serve is cheaper. There are just five steps, so even first-timers can fill up with confidence.

Park at a self-serve pump

Pull up next to a pump marked “Self Serve.”

At “Full Serve” pumps an attendant fills up for you, which costs more.

Choose regular unleaded (Shell FuelSave)

Use regular unleaded only. At Shell stations in Guam it is sold as “Shell FuelSave.” “V-Power” is premium and “Diesel” is diesel, so avoid those. Nozzle colors vary, so go by the label.

Tell the cashier your pump number

At the cashier inside (or to a nearby attendant), give your pump number and say “Fill it up.”

Fill the tank

Open the fuel door and remove the cap, then take the nozzle off the pump and lift the lever it was resting on.
Insert the nozzle and squeeze the handle to start pumping.

The pump shuts off by itself when the tank is full. Don’t squeeze again to top off: fuel can overflow and damage the pump. Hang the nozzle back up when you’re done.

Pay

1 gallon = about 3.8 liters

Gas prices change often, so check the price shown on the pump. Keep the receipt to show when you settle up after returning the car.

You’ll be shown where nearby gas stations are when you pick up the car.
Cars are rented with a full tank, so fill up at a gas station before returning the car. If the tank was not full at pickup, refill it to the pickup level.
*If you can’t refuel or the tank is short, the fuel will be charged at the rental company’s standard rates. Because staff have to refuel the car, it costs more than doing it yourself.
